It's not the first time (and hopefully not the last) that a company has profited from
mining its abandoned shopping carts. What impressed us about Dell's program was how it
combined an urgency to act with effective customer assistance. Clean and simple, this
triggered email enjoyed high open rates and was highly profitable.

The e-mail is highly relevant to customers and provides assistance to complete their
pending order. It includes a "click to call" feature allowing subscribers to submit
their contact information and the best time for a Dell sales manager to call and assist
them with their purchase. The program has successfully recaptured revenue that
previously was lost. Sorry, the judges promised this winner that we would keep their
results private. However, be assured that we have seen all the data and were thoroughly
impressed!
