SUMMARY:
Search engine optimization requires a significant investment of both time and money. Thanks to algorithm modifications, especially changes that affect specific devices, the fruits of that effort can vary greatly, and shift quickly. To help you benchmark the changes you see in search engine traffic, read on for data about organic search visits by device. |
Using data from more than 150 major brands, Merkle created the below chart that shows the year-over-year growth (and decrease) in organic search visits.
We sat down with Ryan Gibson, EVP, Marketing Strategy, Merkle, to discuss the data and get some tips
for improving traffic generation from search engines.
As you can see, brands are experiencing an overall decrease in organic search visits, most notably on tablets.
Even organic traffic from phones is decreasing. Mind you, organic traffic from phones had seen a dramatic increase in the recent past (for example, over 50% year-over-year increase in the first quarter of 2015), so that minor decrease comes off of an overall higher amount of traffic during the last couple of years.
