How To

Holland's Top 5 Business Models to Make Money With a Free Emailed Newsletter

SUMMARY: No summary available
Our Publisher, Anne Holland, recently shared these five
basic free ezine business models with the members of the
Newsletter and Electronic Publishers Association; and,
we thought you'd like a copy too:

1. Advertising and sponsorships. These are growing
rapidly as advertisers realize higher response rates to
"little" ads in e-mail newsletters than they often are
in their print, banner, direct-mail and tradeshow
presence. Publishers sell their ads directly or through
new networks from media brokers such as Flycast.com,
B2BWorks.net and PennMedia.com.

2. Ancillary product sales tool. Many people, including
Peppers & Rogers, Boardroom Reports and Bits & Pieces
among them, do great free e-mail letters to gather an
opt-in list of great prospects for their other products,
including subscription newsletters, special reports,
books and consulting.

3. Classifieds. Free ezine Silicon Alley Daily is now
making more money from their classifieds than they are
from any other ads, their famed events and their print
magazine combined. In this super-tight job market,
employers are ready to spend!

4. Affiliate deals. This isn't always heaps of money,
but it's a nice addition to the pot. Many suppliers,
including other newsletters, vendors and Web sites, are
willing to give newsletter publishers a commission for
every customer they send along. Check out
http://www.refer-it.com for a list of opportunities.

5. List rentals. Renting your opt-in email list (with
prior permission from listees) can net you $5.00+ per
name a year. Less if you are a broad topic, more if you
are a highly select, professional topic. (Note: if you'd
